Day Of Rest

Day 1 is a day of rest for all. (Me Too :)

Puppies are here. 3 boys (one b0y has an ear patch) and 2 girls. It was somewhat of an eventful delivery. Zinda struggled to deliver the first puppy. After an appropriate amount of time and no puppy came off to the vet we went. It was determined that the puppy was stuck. One leg in and one leg trying to come out. Once the puppy was positioned correctly he delivered easily. The next 4 were born like clockwork. No problems at all. The last puppy was big and took some time to deliver. He was still born. :( It's always sad to lose a puppy.

Mom and pups are doing great today.

We are finally making some serious progress. Lot's of panting and pacing. Labor has truly started. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the puppies to arrive.
We are making very slow progress today. Lots of sleeping and lots of nesting. Hopefully tonight will bring puppies.

We're on our way. Zinda has decided she's not going to eat and her temperature is starting to go down. She's digging and looking in every corner and closet for a place to have her babies. These are all normal signs that she's getting ready to whelp. So my guess would be tomorrow or tomorrow night the puppies will arrive. :)

Here are the proud mom, Zinda, and dad Romeo.

This is the ultrasound Zinda had done on the 28th day of her pregnancy. The black hole is the sack the puppy is in and the blob in the middle of the black hole is a puppy. The reason for doing the ultrasound on day 28 is that is the day when you can see the heart beat in the puppies and can get a pretty accurate count of how many puppies she is carrying. Looks like there are 6 or 7 babies in there. :) Before day 28 they are to young to be able to see the heartbeat. After day 28 the puppies start getting so big it's hard to get an accurate count if it's a large litter.

Dally ready to go riding.

Ok, here we go. One more new thing to learn. How to do a blog. :)
Welcome to On The Spot's puppy blog. Zinda is expecting puppies on August 28, 2009. I'll be updating often once the babies make their grand entrance. We're excited. :)
